It is estimated that some 75 percent of university faculty are adjuncts. We are not on the tenure track, we are paid a fraction of what full time faculty are paid while having the same credentials and teaching the same classes. Higher education is based on exploitative and extractive labor practices. A once venerated profession is now part of the gig economy.
I invited adjuncts to submit artwork and to tell their stories, which I compiled in Adjunct Riot. Some names were changed at the request of participants.
Adjunct Riot was printed on a risograph at Drum Machine Editions. Both printings are sold out.
